API Information
The WEL API lets you send fax, SMS, email and voice messages directly from your own applications and retrieve delivery reports programmatically — without using the WEL web portal.
Common Use Cases
- Dispatch notifications — automatically notify customers when goods ship or are due for delivery
- Appointment reminders — trigger reminders from your booking system with keypress confirmation or cancellation
- System alerts — push alerts from any internal application to staff or customers
- Two-way interactions — send messages and receive replies or keypress responses back into your system
Which API Should I Use?
WEL offers two APIs. For new integrations, use the REST API.
| REST API | SOAP API | |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Current — recommended for new integrations | Older — maintained for existing integrations |
| Protocol | HTTPS / JSON | SOAP over HTTP / XML |
| Documentation | Built-in interactive help guide | PDF reference document |
REST API
The REST API is the current WEL API. It uses standard HTTPS requests and JSON, making it straightforward to integrate from any modern language or platform. The API home page doubles as its documentation — all endpoints, parameters and example requests are documented there.

SOAP API
The SOAP API is the older WEL interface and is maintained for existing integrations. It uses SOAP over HTTP with XML payloads and can be implemented with .NET, Java, or any SOAP-capable toolkit. Full method signatures, parameters and examples are in the reference document.
