We see the headlines every few weeks or months. Another large scale data leak. Malicious brute force attacks. Fraudulent impostors scamming businesses and governments across the globe. What can you do today, to improve your business messaging security?
Firstly, lets talk about email. An email is going to go through many servers and internet connections until it hits your mailbox. Make sure that you’re email service is secured using at least TLS 1.2. Some lesser versions of TLS have known exploits. At minimum, ensure that vendors whom you receive emails from, use both path and identity based authentication, using SPF records and DKIM signatures.
Are you ready to move to online Fax? With a good cloud fax to email service, your service provider will encrypt the fax between POP aggregation and their network. Think about who has access to the fax before it gets to you? Further, ask about security options for viewing it in a secure portal or workspace.

What about Business SMS? Anyone can send an SMS to any phone number, and change the sender ID so that the message purports to be from an organisation or person who did not send it. We’ve tested and implemented some options that will send large amounts of detailed content, including images, brand links, and headers and footers in a custom link per recipient. When combining this with benign personal information, you can create validity and authenticity in the mind of the recipient. Try our demo Linkin SMS system for free to get an idea how it works.
Using the WEL platform, you can send recorded voice or text to speech messages to the handsets of your recipients. This is extremely valuable for confidential passwords, authorisation PIN’s and sensitive information that you only want your recipient to hear, and is extremely hard to intercept.
To decrease risk, remember the old adage that security is only as good as the weakest link. Make sure that you set a good policy framework, and keep improving, testing and auditing the controls, so that you can be assured of your business messaging security. This includes ensuring that you and your contractors back up everything, test restore, and keep operating systems updated regularly.
Why not try the WEL platform for free. We’d love to work with you on your business case.
