2FA for Increased Security

Two Factor Authentication (2FA) is quite simply, a second layer of access control. Beyond username and password, 2FA is used to secure online accounts. More generally it can also be used for a range of risk control, such as data theft, and to reduce fraudulent transactions. We’ve developed a customised solution of 2FA for increased security, using our Voice, SMS and Email services. And we’re rolling it out in the WEL messaging ecosystem.

We’ve all seen the headlines, various data breaches, hacks and leaks of personal information. If you haven’t been caught up in one of these recently, count yourself lucky. It is not if, but when, an organisation that holds your information is targeted.

At WEL, while we don’t hold much personal information, we do send messages, and lots of them.

Controlling who has access to your message sending account is imperative. This is why in coming months we will be rolling out 2FA to customers when accessing their account online. In fact, we’re pursuing the Essential 8 Cyber maturity recommendations.

When you account is 2FA enabled, after entering your username and password, you will arrive at a screen to enter a 6 digit code. The default will be SMS, but you can choose to have delivery via Email or Voice phone call. The destination of the code is the contact number in the Phone field of your user profile, or of course the primary email address.

Here are some other ways that we are working proactively to help keep you secure:

  • IP address tracking per session ID. We have software built to track the session ID, and if a session ID is used by another IP address, you are logged out immediately.
  • We never store credit card information online, ever.
  • Customisable document retention limits. Choose if we keep you documents or data, and for how long.
  • Document store backup settings, Choose if, and how, you want Fax, Voice and Email documents backed up.
  • Monthly spend limit settings for post paid account customer, or prepaid credit account options.
  • Ongoing iteration of a range of internal logging and application monitoring tools
